Central Oregon Harley Owners Group
There are those people that would insist
that using the words Motorcycle
and Safety
in the same sentence is an oxymoron.
How
can we perch ourselves on top
of nearly 1000
pounds of hot steel with more
horsepower
than many cars and only two wheels
and be
safe at the same time?
Safety isn't just a concept,
it must always
be our primary focus every time
we swing
our leg over the Iron Horse.
I hope that
everyone out there has a little
"Pre-Flight"
check list that they follow before
every
ride.
- Inspect your tires, and check the air pressure.
- Be sure that the vital fluids in your ride
are at the proper levels.
- Make sure all the accessories, bags, trunk,
are properly secure.
- Check all the lights to be sure they are
functioning, we want to be
seen.
- Has your ride been sitting in the garage
for the last two months because the weather
has been ugly? Take a little practice ride
around neighborhood before you mount up with
your passenger and risk making a mistake
that could have been avoided.
I am certainly no expert on Motorcycle
Safety,
I've been riding for many years
but that
doesn't mean I always know what
comes next.
Every ride is a new experience.
That's probably
one of the main reasons I love
to ride. My
wife of 41 years and I ride two-up
on our
Harley. When we are together
on a ride, our
age and the years seem to melt
away and we
just can't wait to see what's
around the next
curve and over the next hill.
Am I a lucky
guy, YOU BET!
